Historic Preservation Program at the University of Maryland is very interdisciplinary. You get not only the physical side of it, but you really get to explore issues related to the people that are involved, and the stories that are involved in the places that we seek to preserve.
University of Maryland is in the prime location for historic artifacts, museums, archaeological sites. You wouldn't get this type of experience anywhere else.
We're in an area where there's a lot of preservation challenges and a lot of opportunities to explore the things that we learned in the classroom.
It really encompasses all cultural resources, using history as a sense of place and bringing in and connecting it to communities and community engagement in general. You will never get an experience where you can have so much historical fabric right there as close as we are to it, within 20 minutes away. It's not just for those who love history, it's for those who love community, it's for those who love sustainability, and who love to build a sense of place within that community.
